    Abstract
As the title of the dissertation suggests, my final purpose is to examine the development of mystical terminology with reference to five books: Solami’s Tabaqat al-Sufia, the translation of Resaleye Qosheirieh, Khajeh Abdollah Ansari’s Tabaqat al-Sufia, Attar’s Tazkirah al-‘Ulia, and Jami’s Nafahat Al-Uns. I started my examination by finding typed texts of previously noted books; then, after I corrected typing errors, I read the texts precisely and extracted mystical terms of each book. The terminology includes not only current and well-known, but also registered terms which, I think, could be added to those current and well-known terms. Having extracted the terminology of each book, I brought the mentioned definitions of each term under that very term and set aside those of which there was no definition at hand. Thus, for each of previously mentioned books I provided an articulated and alphabetically arranged list of terms and their definitions. The next step was to set up a new list including all terms and containing different definitions of every term alongside. Definitions are ordered according to the dates the relevant book has been written. It is not clear, however, when Heravi’s Tabaqat al-Sufia was written or compiled, but I have considered Resaleye Qosheirieh the one preceding in time because Khajeh Abdollah died earlier. Having the final list on my hand, I examined the meanings and definitions for each of the terms and attempted to give an analysis this way; but, since I had not enough time to provide a final analysis, there are many faults in it. To attain a better analysis, it was necessary to set up citations according to Masters’ (Sheikh) precedence in time; this, however, was not attained because I was running out of time and there were a large number of Masters to be studied and, furthermore, there was vagueness regarding their dates of birth and death. At any rate, I confess the faults because examining the development of the terms needed a great deal of studies. Another criticism to my work may be that I have examined only five books. There are plenty of terms each of which could be subject for a dissertation. Yet it is valuable to provide the terminology of these five books; and this may prepare a foundation for next studies.
