- Abstract
- After World War II, the United Kingdom received many new challenges on both domestic and international levels. On one hand, it was grappling with the consequences of WWII. On the other, it was negotiating the process of decolonization, replacing a formal empire with a sphere of influence. In this period, one of the main challenges to the British state came from the immigrants from the former colonies that were coming in full flow to the UK, as the exercise of their imperial citizenship rights. This being the case, this chapter introduces the topics that are the concern of the current thesis, the questions and the hypotheses that seek to answer those questions. It will also delineate the overall outline for the following chapters.
