A knowledge-based company based at the Science and Technology Park of the University of Tehran has succeeded in designing and manufacturing a firefighting deluge valve.

According to the Public Relations Office of the University of Tehran, the production of this product has addressed a strategic need in industry, particularly in the oil and gas sector, for equipping fire suppression systems with imported deluge valves.

The deluge valve is one of the main components of fire suppression systems and is responsible for controlling the entry of water or water-foam solution into the suppression network. In standby mode, the valve remains closed; upon receiving a command from the fire detection system or upon manual activation, it opens so that the suppression fluid flows simultaneously through the nozzle network across the protected area. The significance of this function in industrial facilities—especially in environments handling flammable materials—lies in the rapid initiation of suppression operations, cooling of equipment, and reduction of the likelihood of fire spreading to adjacent areas.

The product manufactured at the Science and Technology Park of the University of Tehran can be activated automatically by electrical or pneumatic command and can also be operated manually, which, while accelerating the response process, reduces the need for personnel to be initially present in the immediate vicinity of the hazard. Its technical features include a diaphragm-type structure, corrosion-resistance measures, selection of corrosion-resistant materials, precision in component manufacturing, and coordination of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic control circuits. The technical team of the company designing and producing the product pursued the development process by examining industry operational requirements, designing and revising prototypes, and conducting sealing and performance tests at various pressures; provision has also been made for manual operation under emergency conditions.

The advantages of domestic production of this product include reduced costs associated with imports, supply at a more competitive price, easier procurement, direct access to the manufacturer, availability of spare parts, and provision of repair and maintenance services. The product has so far been used in parts of the refining and distribution of petroleum products, steel, automotive, and paint industries, and its target market includes the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries, mining, food industries, automotive manufacturing, and other sectors requiring specialized safety and fire suppression equipment.

This product, which is among the specialized equipment of fire alarm and suppression systems, holds Patent Registration Certificate No. 66190, and the ground is prepared for exporting it to neighboring countries.
