Statement of the Faculty Members of the UT Faculty of Social Sciences on Zionist Regim attack on Iran

With utmost respect,

It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the ongoing military aggression against Iran, a country with an ancient history, a rich cultural heritage, and a profound scientific legacy.

The aggression carried out by Israel has tragically resulted in the martyrdom and injury of a significant number of our fellow citizens, including university professors, students, women, and children.

Israel’s invasion is a blatant violation of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, including the prohibition of the use of force and the respect for the territorial integrity of states. Such acts constitute breaches of international law, making the aggressor regime accountable to the international community.

 Article 51 of the United Nations Charter fully recognizes Iran's inherent right to self-defense until the complete elimination of the threat and the establishment of deterrence against further aggression.

We expect the United Nations Security Council, as the guardian of international peace and security, to take immediate, decisive, and effective action to prevent the continuation of this aggression and to support Iran's legitimate right to self-defense. The targeted assassination of prominent scientists, university professors, and military personnel in their homes alongside their families, the attack on residential areas, the murder of innocent women and children, as well as the assault on civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities, constitute gross violations of international humanitarian law and are clear instances of war crimes that necessitate legal prosecution.

In light of your inherent and international duties, the heavy responsibility entrusted to you by the nations of the world, and the collective international responsibility directed at international organizations, we, the faculty members of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Tehran, respectfully request that you exert your efforts to hold the Israeli regime fully accountable for its crimes. Our concern extends beyond Iran; we are deeply worried about global peace.

For nearly two years, the Israeli regime has flagrantly violated human rights, international humanitarian law, and the values of peace, democracy, and humanity, undermining the credibility of international institutions. We implore you to stand firm against the crimes of the Israeli government and strongly condemn them. The continued aggression will plunge the region into greater chaos and bring harm to the entire world.

We sincerely hope for the achievement of lasting peace and tranquility in the world.
