UT New Acting President Appointed

Prof.  Mohammad Hossein Omid was appointed as the Acting President of the University of  Tehran on 7 May, 2025 by Prof. Simaei Sarraf, the honorable Minister of Science, Research and Technology of I.R. of Iran.  

Mohammad Hossein Omid is a university professor . He holds a Ph.D from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK . He is a full-time professor in the Department of Irrigation and Development Engineering at the School of Water and Soil Engineering, UT College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

He is the former Vice Minister of Administration and Finance of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and the former President of the Comprehensive University of Applied Sciences. He was also the former Acting President of the University of Tehran. He holds a bachelor's and master's degree in irrigation and a Ph.D. in hydraulic engineering.

Administrative background:

Mohammad Hossein Omid was the Vice President for Student Affairs and Culture at the University of Tehran during the presidency of Reza Farajidana, and during the presidency of Abbas Ali Amid Zanjani and for a while during the presidency of Farhad Rahbar, he was the Vice President for Administration and Finance at the University of Tehran.

Mohammad Hossein Omid has previous managerial experience, including serving as the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Tehran and the Dean of the Aras International Campus of the University of Tehran.

On 28 August, 2013, Jafar Tofighi, Acting Minister of Science, Research and Technology, appointed Mohammad Hossein Omid as Vice Minister of Administration and Finance of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.

On February 18, 2014, by order of Reza Faraji Dana, Minister of Science, Research and Technology, Mohammad Hossein Omid replaced Farhad Rahbar, retaining his position, and became the President of the University of Tehran. Omid served as the Acting  President of the University of Tehran until June 9, 2014, when he was eventually replaced by Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi.

On May 7, 1404, by order of Hossein Simaei Sarraf, Minister of Science, Research and Technology, he was appointed as the Acting President  of the University of Tehran.
