University of Tehran joins the CERN
With the efforts of the professor of physics at the College of Science, University of Tehran became a member of Swiss CERN international laboratory.
Dr. Kazem Azizi, Professor of the School of Physics of the College of Sciences of the University of Tehran and a member of the CERN working group in the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, in introducing the international scientific institute, said: "CERN, is the Europe's nuclear and particle physics research center and the largest scientific laboratory. Moreover, the world's European countries are the main members of CERN, but more than 70 countries cooperate with CERN in other ways.
Describing the structure of matter at the most fundamental level, identifying the components that make up the entire energy of the universe, including matter and dark energy, examining the evolution of the universe from the beginning until now, and examining possible scenarios for the future of the universe are among the goals of this scientific laboratory.
Dr. Azizi said about other current scientific activities at CERN: "At CERN, parallel to physics, research is going on in other branches of science such as engineering, agriculture, medicine, artificial intelligence and new technologies. “Regarding the importance of participating in CERN and similar scientific centers, a member of the School of Sciences of UT said: "Current research in CERN is carried out in the dimensions of ten to the power of minus eighteen (nano-nano). Such research leads to advances in micro-technologies that are the basis of the industrial revolution.
Therefore, such participation will lead to the progress of countries in all scientific fields, including basic sciences, medicine, engineering and agriculture. It can be said that the future of the economy of countries in the long term depends on the amount of their investment in fundamental research, and at the top of them is the technology of particle accelerators.
Dr. Azizi listed the history of cooperation of Iranian scientific-research institutions with CERN as follows: "Previously, the Institute of Basic Knowledge and Isfahan University of Technology have been members of CERN in some current projects, and the membership of the University of Tehran is related to the Future Scientific Circle (FCC) project."
Regarding the national organization of the membership of Iranian institutions in CERN, he added: "Fortunately, with the follow-up of some faculty members of research institutes and universities, the importance of participation in the scientific activities of CERN has been noticed by the officials of higher education and a working group called CERN has been established in the Center for International Studies and Cooperation of the Ministry of Science. , Research and Technology have been established for several years.
The preparation of a comprehensive map of the country's cooperation with CERN and similar centers and the preparation of a new code of conduct for the cooperation of the country's research institutes and universities with CERN are among the activities of this working group.
