Iranian Knowledge-Based Firm Indigenizes 800 High-Precision Satellite Mapping Receivers

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iranian researchers at a knowledge-based company succeeded in production of 800 satellite mapping receivers with centimeter accuracy.

“Our field of activity is in precise satellite positioning systems. This device is applied for mapping, preparation of property maps of agricultural and construction lands and measures related to GIS or geographic information system,” Meysam Qanizadeh, a researcher of the knowledge-based company stationed at the Science and Technology Park of University of Tehran, told ANA.

“We are one of the leading companies in the field of producing satellite mapping receivers, which have been welcomed by users inside and outside the country due to their high accuracy, efficiency and reasonable price,” he added.

Qanizadeh explained that mapping receivers often include real-time data analysis and post-processing capabilities, adding that in real-time applications, these receivers can provide spatial data directly and instantaneously in the field.

“At present, this technology is used for self-driving cars and automotive industry equipment,” he underlined.

Qanizadeh noted that the GPS receiver takes help in determining its exact position by receiving signals from the satellite, adding that these signals include precise time information and the positions of the satellites, allowing the receiver to calculate its position through a process called trilateration.

In a relevant development in late 2022, an Islamic Azad University student had also produced a bump mapping module using computer techniques.

Speaking to ANA, Saeed Sediqi, a computer architecture engineering student at the IAU-Shiraz Branch said that the project to produce bump mapping was done for the Iranian Army’s Self Sufficiency Department.

He explained about his project and said that “bump mapping module takes the information from the camera and produces the bump map in real time, which are actually the bumps in that scene”.

“Differences in the image captured in the video frames from the camera and the movements in the scene are also depicted in the bump map module and its information is extracted,” the IAU student added.

Bump mapping is a texture mapping technique in computer graphics for simulating bumps and wrinkles on the surface of an object.
