Iran's Department of Environment Says Doors Open to Solve Dust Challenge

Tehran (IP) - The Head of Iran's Department of Environment [UT faculty member] said that Iran has opened doors to the world for cooperation to solve the environmental challenges which has been welcomed.

Iran Press/Iran News: Appreciating the participation of the representatives of the foreign countries in the forum, Ali Salajeghe said that Iran has proposed a plan to establish a regional fund and secretariat in the form of a joint organization which would yield effective results. 

Salajeghe made the remarks while delivering a speech in the ceremony "International Day of Combating Sand and Dust Storms" hosted by Tehran on Saturday 12 July.

According to Iran's proposal, a day was announced as World Dust Day, which was the result of Iranian experts' creative thinking, Salajeghe said.

Iran has tried to make countries aware of the negative effects of dust storms, he said and noted that the problem could be overcome through international cooperation based on common keywords.

July 12 was the proposed "International Day of Combating Sand and Dust Storms"  by the Islamic Republic of Iran approved by the UN General Assembly, to increase resilience against the dust phenomenon through the promotion of regional and international cooperation, public awareness, and knowledge-based solutions.

Last year the conference was held in Tehran from September 9-10 and representatives of some 50 countries and 15 international organizations participated in the conference.
