A high ranking delegation from Nanjing University led by Prof. TAN Tieniu, Chair of the University CPC Council met with Prof. Moghimi UT President

Tehran has 1000 active courses with 54 faculties and branches in different cities of Iran, said: The establishment of University of Tehran  branches in different countries is being pursued.

700 Memorandums of Understanding between University of Tehran and universities around the world

He pointed to the 700 MoU’s of University of Tehran with universities of the world from different continents and added: In the current management period of University of Tehran, we have paid attention to two important priorities for the development of scientific diplomacy. First of all, the universities that we will interact with are related to countries that are friend and aligned with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and without a doubt, the friendly country, i.e. China, is at the top of these countries. The second priority of the University of Tehran in the development of scientific diplomacy is that we are interested in making the MoU’s practical rather just signing them.

The presence of University of Tehran among the top 300 universities in the world

Prof. Moghimi pointed out the position of University of Tehran in the prestigious international rankings and said: We witnessed a significant improvement in the position of University of Tehran in the 2024 edition of the Times ranking, so that University of Tehran has achieved its best rank in this ranking system in the last decade and in It was ranked among the top 500 institutions in the world.

He stated that the University of Tehran is in the first place in most international rankings, including the ranking of the National University of Taiwan (ranking of the performance of scientific articles of the world's universities), Webometrics, etc., and said: based on the 2023 report, "Ranking of the performance of scientific articles of the world's universities, University of Tehran is ranked 286th in the world with 83 progress in places in one year. Also, the examination of the status of Iranian universities in the 2023 edition of the Leiden ranking shows that University of Tehran is among the top 200 universities in the world in terms of "scientific reference", "scientific diplomacy" and "free access to publications".

Prof. Moghimi stated that the University of Tehran has improved its ranking by more than 90 points in one year, and is the record holder for improving its position in the Times ranking of Asian universities in 2023; He noted: University of Tehran was ranked among the top 251-300 universities in Asia in the 2022 Times Asian Universities Ranking, which, based on the 2023 edition of this ranking, is ranked 157th among Asian universities.

The president of the University of Tehran also pointed to the improvement of the situation of Iranian universities in the 2024 QS ranking and said: The biggest jump in this edition of the QS ranking reached the University of Tehran. In the 2023 edition of the QS ranking, the University of Tehran was ranked 510-501 in the world, and in the 2024 edition of this ranking system, with at least 141 steps of improvement compared to the 2023 edition of this ranking, it is now ranked 360 in the world.

Nanjing University is the link between the great universities of Iran and China

Referring to the good international ranking of Nanjing University of China and expressing his interest in Nanjing University being the connecting link between Iran's major universities and major universities in China, the Professor of UT's School of Management said: holding meetings of presidents of Iran's and China's major universities in Tehran and Beijing becomes a field for sharing the capacities of these universities in order to achieve great things. Nanjing University can be a good strategic partner for UT.

Referring to the friendly, close and strategic relations between Iran and China, he emphasized: Scientific diplomacy can be the connecting link between the clauses and different parts of the strategic agreement between Iran and China, because any agreement will not be sustainable without considering its scientific aspects. The function of politicians is to lay the groundwork for strengthening relations through initial consultations, and the work of academics and scientific officials is to continue it through scientific diplomacy and strengthen these relations.

Prof. Moghimi referred to his meeting with the Chinese ambassador in Tehran and said: One of the agreements with the Chinese ambassador was to form a conference of major universities in Iran and China, as so far there have been seven sessions of the presidents of major universities in Iran and Russia with the presence of The presidents of 14 Iranian universities and several large Russian universities have been formed in Tehran and Moscow, and these universities have established close interactions with each other.

Joint cooperation axes between University of Tehran and Nanjing University

He explained some aspects of the joint cooperation between University of Tehran and Nanjing University, from the exchange of professors and students, using the capacities of the two universities to hold study opportunities for the professors of the two universities, cooperation in launching new courses, creating joint courses between the two universities, and holding specialized meetings especially to help the entrepreneurs, traders and businessmen of the two countries with the participation of the political institutions of Iran and China in Tehran and Beijing.

The first step of cooperation between University of Tehran and Nanjing University in the field of marine sciences

The President of University of Tehran named one of the favorite areas for cooperation between the two universities as the interdisciplinary field of geographical sciences and stated that University of Tehran has two international branches in Kish Island and Qeshm Island, as well as the Marine Science Research Institute in Kish. In line with the development of maritime civilization on the shores of the Persian Gulf, we are interested in forming activities, especially in the development of Makran. In the first step for cooperation in this sector, we can focus joint activities in the Marine Science Research Institute focusing on the Persian Gulf.

Proposal to set up joint study centers between University of Tehran and Nanjing University

According to the public relations report of UT, Prof. TAN Tieniu, Chair of  the University CPC Council  , Nanjing University of China, during his second trip to Iran and in a meeting with the President of UT, in addition to the relations between the two friendly countries, the 120-year history of Nanjing University and the influence of this  university, he added"A significant number of current major universities in China have branched out from Nanjing University, and many university courses in China were first established at Nanjing University." This university is ranked 73rd in the Times ranking and 120th in the world in QS.

He stated that Nanjing University with 41,000 students has a variety of disciplines at different levels of study in the form of 38 university units; He pointed out: One third of Nanjing University students study at the undergraduate level and the rest at the master's and doctorate levels, and 1,500 foreign students are studying in this university.

Prof. TAN Tieniu, Chair of the University CPC Council, Nanjing University  , China  proposing the definition of joint projects and the establishment of joint study centers in various sciences between University  of Tehran and Nanjing University, emphasized: The expansion of international relations is among the priority programs of Nanjing University, and in this framework, we are ready to offer specialized supplementary courses of one week to one month to allocate for the researchers of University of Tehran .

Proposing the creation of a union between the great universities of Iran and China

Emphasizing the cooperation between the two universities of Tehran and Nanjing for cooperation in the field of regional studies, he said: the creation of a union between the two major universities of the two countries creates a suitable and continuous basis for the cooperation between China and Iran, and in this regard, the formation of a joint commission between the two universities is necessary. We are in favor of the development of cooperation.

Prof. TAN Tieniu, Chair of the University CPC Council appointed one of his assistants to follow up the establishment of a joint commission for the development of cooperation between the two universities, and Dr. Seyed Mohammad Moghimi also introduced the Vice President for International Affairs at UT with full authority from the University of Tehran in order to design mechanisms for the development of these cooperation.

Setting up the Persian Language Department at Nanjing University

Dr. Elham Aminzadeh, Vice President for International Affairs at University of Tehran announced the statistical number of non-Iranian students at UT as 1,260 students and emphasized: We are interested in defining long-term projects between the two universities of Tehran and Nanjing, and in this regard, we are ready to start a Persian Language Department in Nanjing University similar to Chinese language Department which is active in UT.

Formation of working group of China, Japan and Korea in University of Tehran

Dr. Mahmoudreza Delavar, Director General of International Student and Professors at University of Tehran also announced plans to set up international working groups and said: China, Japan, and Korea working groups are among the most important working groups that we can exchange experience in the field of internationalization and improving ranking. to be

Cooperation in the AUAP and the Association of Indian Ocean Universities, taking advantage of the opportunity to establish the secretariat of the meeting of presidents of 14 major Iranian universities in the University of Tehran, cooperation in the joint guidance of theses and student theses, and collaboration in the field of research priorities such as artificial intelligence, new energies, precision agriculture, environment, automobile, development of common technologies and cooperation of science and technology parks of two universities were among the axes that were raised by Dr. Delavar.

Dr. Hassan Zamaniyan, a professor at UT, also pointed out that University of Tehran is ranked less than 50 in the world in many scientific fields, and said: We are interested in defining the axes of cooperation between the two universities based on the future of world research until 2050, which are the main ones including climate research as well as microelectronics.

Dr. Zamanian, who is also the head of the Scientific and Industrial Research Organization of Iran, announced his readiness for cooperation between this organization and Nanjing University, referring to the activities of 9 research institutes and 250 technological and innovative companies in the Scientific and Industrial Research Organization of Iran.

At the end of this meeting, in the presence of Dr. Mehdi Shahbazi, Adviser to the president of University of Tehran  and the Head of the Center for Presidency and Public Relations, Dr. Ruqieh Qasimpour, Professor of Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Schools and Executive Director of the Center for Presidency and Public Relations, Abdolmajid Eskandari, Director General, Office of International Relations and Dr. Ehsan Chitsaz, Director General of Technology and Innovation Policy of UT, the MoU was signed between the two universities of Tehran and Nanjing by Dr. Seyed Mohammad Moghimi and Dr. Tan Tino.

Joint research activities, exchange of academic staff members and students and educational materials, joint supervision of master's theses and doctoral theses, and the creation of joint dual degrees are among the axes of the MoU which is valid for five years.
