Iranian poet Shafie'i Kadkani responds to insulting Quran burning act
NA- After the insulting act of Quran burning in Sweden, prominent Iranian poet, writer and literary critic Mohammad-Reza Shafie'i Kadkani wrote a message in his Instagram page to censure the sacrilegious move.
Kadkani who is also a professor of literature at the University of Tehran, said in his message with a photo showing the holy Quran in his hands: “The last leaf of rain's travelogue reads: The earth is tarnished”.
Earlier on the eve of Eid al-Adha, a 37-year-old Iraqi refugee in Sweden, tore, burned and kicked the holy Quran in front of the main mosque in Stockholm at a protest initially allowed by the authorities.
However, the Swedish police said later they were investigating his action as a potential act of "agitation against an ethnic group". Moreover, many Muslim countries from Turkey, Morocco, Iraq and Saudi Arabia to Iran condemned the blasphemous act.
Born on October 12, 1939 in Nishapur, Razavi Khorasan province of Iran, Shafiei-Kadkani is the most famous living poet of Persian language. He is known for his works on literary criticism and modern Persian poetry.
