Bai Jisue’s Chinese Translation of Quran

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Bai Jisu is a Chinese cultural activist who has translated the Holy Quran into the Chinese language.

Bai Jisu was born in Qujing, China’s Yunnan Province, in 1966. He started learning Quranic sciences at an early age in China and then traveled to Iran in 1989 to study at Razavi Islamic University in Mashhad. He graduated from the university in 1995.

Jisu also learned the Arabic and Persian languages while studying in Iran.

He got his MA from the University of Tehran’s Faculty of Theology in 2002 and then returned to China in 2006.

In 2002, he started translating the Quran into Chinese in cooperation with the Tarjoman-e Vahy Cultural Institute.

It took him about ten years to complete the rendering.

He has also cooperated with Al-Mustafa International University’s branch and the Iranian Cultural Center and Embassy in Beijing in translation of Islamic books and creating content in Chinese for the Quranic website gulanjing.com.

His most outstanding work is the translation of the Quran in Chinese, which is the first rendering of the Holy Book in this language based on the school of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).

Edited by Professor Yahya Lin Song, it was published in 2011.

Thanks to his mastery over the Arabic language, Jisu translated the Quran from the original Arabic.

He has also used the contemporary Chinese language in his translation, which distinguishes it from older translations given the fact that the Chinese language has gone through changes over the past decades.

In his translation, Jisu has offered brief explanations about the meanings of some words and verses at the end of each page.
