UT-TUMS Joint International Day Festival held

According to University of Tehran Public Relations report, at the ceremony of the fourth joint festival of International Day of University of Tehran and Tehran University of Medical Sciences, which was held in Shahid Chamran Hall of University of Tehran,  Prof. Seyed Mohammad Moghimi, President of University of Tehran, stated “ One of our main strategies in two universities of Tehran and Tehran University of Medical Sciences is the internationalization of these two universities as much as possible. These two universities are pioneers in the medical and non-medical fields in the country and can be an inspiration for other universities. As we promised last year, after one year we see that the growth rate and promotion of University of Tehran in internationalization indicators have grown very well.

Introducing the winners of the joint festival of the International Day of University of  Tehran and Tehran University of Medical Sciences ,  Prof. Yunus Shokrkhah and Prof. Mohammad Abdul Ahad were recognized as special winners

The President of University of Tehran added: Based on the evaluations carried out by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, the results of which were announced on Tuesday, 28  February,2023 at the national meeting of managers and representatives of the international field of universities across the country, University of Tehran succeeded in getting the first rank among universities of  the Ministry of Science Research and Technology. We congratulate all the academicians of University of Tehran especially the colleagues of the Office of Vice President for International Affairs.

Prof. Moghimi mentioned scientific diplomacy as one of the most important tools for interactions and stable relations between countries and emphasized: The policy of University of  Tehran in the field of recruiting non-Iranian students is to focus primarily on neighboring countries and to accept applicants from these countries. In the coming year, University of Tehran, in addition to increasing the admission rate of non-Iranian students, is also considering promoting diversification to the target countries to attract non-Iranian students.

He named the countries of Iraq, Afghanistan and countries that have cultural commonalities with the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region as priorities of cooperation   and added that  there are many interactions between them. UT intend  to   increase the admission of international students and further emphasized: the presence of students from different countries will increase the cultural intelligence of Iranian students as well as students from different countries studying at University of Tehran. Cultural intelligence means more accurate knowledge of cultures and increasing the power of interaction and tolerance of people from different cultures and customs..

The President of University of Tehran pointed out: The internationalization of universities helps both our own students to have a better understanding of the cultural and social environment of different nations and to gain experience, and to be able to introduce our own culture more. Unfortunately, as a result of the malicious propaganda that is being carried out in the international arena against Iranian culture in some media, and Iranian culture is treated unfairly, perhaps international students are the most important tool we have at our disposal and through which we can promote Iranian culture and  introduce Islam to the world

He added: It is one of the main plans of University of Tehran to establish permanent camps in the three regions of Qeshm, Caspian in the north of the country and in the holy city of Mashhad so that both Iranian and international students can learn about each other's cultural and social capacities and the country's progress.

In the other part of his speech, Prof. Moghimi announced that in the last meeting of the Board of Trustees of University of Tehran , which was held recently it was approved to open a branch of University of Tehran  in Georgia, and expressed his hope: Next year, the branch of University of Tehran in  Georgia will admit the international students. University of Tehran also plans to open a branch in Iraq and some other countries in the region..

He emphasized that the motivation of University of Tehran to develop branches and increase the number of non-Iranian students is not only financial motivations; He stated:  University of Tehran's performance in attracting international students has shown that the motivation to earn money is not the number one priority of University of Tehran  in this field. I believe that scientific diplomacy for student exchange and scientific interactions between universities and professors guarantees the formation of stable interaction between nations and countries and provides the basis for the development of economic and social relations.

In line with its responsible approach, University of  Tehran immediately announced that it  is ready to accept these students with a scholarship in Iran or a special discount after some female students in Afghanistan were denied their education. The amount that we approved in the university board of trustees to support these students in terms of granting them scholarships or discounting their tuition fees is a very significant amount.

In the end, the President of University of Tehran said to the non-Iranian students present in this festival: We expect you, who represent your country and culture in the University of Tehran, to convey the cultural experiences and social customs of your country to Iranian students, and in return, to  be the ambassadors of the University of Tehran and  Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Iran as  well . We wish that the time you are in Iran  the best time of your academic life
