A virtual academic meeting between the Department of History, University of Tehran and the Faculty of History, University of St. Petersburg, Russia

Following the program of academic cooperation, a scientific conference entitled "Review of the book of documents on Iran-Russia relations during the Shah Safi period" was held online on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.

This book has been developed in line with the research project of a number of professors of St. Petersburg State University on the subject of historical relations between Iran and Russia in the Safavid period, which began in 2017.

At the beginning of the virtual meeting, Dr. Artim Andriev gave an overview of the history of Iran-Russia relations and various chapters of the book. Then Dr. Vladimir Shurokhov presented a detailed explanation of the totality of Iran-Russia relations in this period and the importance of historical documents. Dr. Olga Yasterbova, Professor of Iranian Studies at St. Petersburg State University, explained how to read and correct Persian documents in the archives of ancient Russian documents, and pointed out the importance of these documents in the study of Persian documents.

Dr. Goodarz Rashtiani, Head of the Department of History, University of Tehran, appreciated the efforts of Russian professors in the development of Iranian studies and expressed hope that bilateral scientific relations would expand further. Then Dr. Mansour Sefatgol, professor of history at the University of Tehran, who is currently a visiting professor at the University of Tokyo, also expressed his views on the importance of these documents and Russia's role in the transit of Iran-Europe trade relations.

He also asked questions about the method of translating written and oral documents sent by Iranian officials to Russia and their maintenance. Then, Dr. Rasoul Jafarian, while appreciating the efforts of the professors of St. Petersburg University, addressed the shortcomings that can be seen in reading Persian documents and demanded that these documents be reviewed by prominent Iranian professors.

Finally, it was decided to hold a scientific conference with the presence of Iranian and Versailles professors and other countries on the relations between the two countries in the Safavid period in the near future.
