Second International Symposium on Suicide Prevention and Intervention Held at UT
On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, The Second International Symposium on Suicide Prevention and Intervention was held at the University of Tehran.
The Symposium was organized through the collaboration between the UT Counseling Center, Iranian Psychological Association, Iranian psychiatrists, and the Iranian Suicide Prevention Association.
The event took place virtually on September 8, 2021, with several Iranian and international experts in attendance.
The symposium commenced with a message by Dr. Nili Ahmadabadi, President of the UT. Indicating the necessity of adopting a scientific approach toward suicide, Dr. Nili Ahmadabadi emphasized the centrality of the role played by universities in tackling the issue. As he remarked, the University of Tehran has taken heed of its social responsibility in this regard, developing scientific and practical plans of action to confront and prevent suicide as a social problem.
The attendees afterwards proceeded to deliver lectures and exchange viewpoints regarding the issue at hand, debating the preventive measures aiming to reduce suicide rates on both national and global scales.
