UT’s Strategies for Establishing “Smoke-Free University” Acclaimed by WHO Representatives and National Tobacco Control Organization
Throughout this visit, Dr. Ranjbar met with Mr. Hamid Peyravi, Head of the UT Counseling Center and Chair of the “Counsel and Treatment” Committee on Smoke-Free University, and Dr. Abbas Ghanbari Baghestan, General Director of the UT Office for Public Relations and Chair of the “Information and Media” Committee.
Upon being apprised of the measures adopted to implement the plans for founding a smoke-free campus, Dr. Ranjbar acknowledged the distinctiveness of the University’s strategies for creative ideation and discourse production regarding the adverse effects of tobacco consumption.
As he indicated, the plan has been well-received by WHO, and after a number of small steps, WHO will grant its official approval of the project. This approval will render the University of Tehran the first university in Iran and Western Asia officially designated as a “Smoke-Free University”.
