President hails Iranian universities' academic achievements
Tehran, Oct 16, IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani hailed the remarkable academic achievements of Iranian universities despite all foreign pressures and economic restrictions in past years.
He made the remarks here on Wednesday when he was addressing a ceremony at Tehran University to celebrate the start of the new academic year in Iran.
Stressing that the Iranian academic community has never lagged behind the world and modern societies, the president praised the universities for always taking significant steps towards helping the country apply modern science and technology.
Elsewhere in his speech, the president said election determines the fate and future of the country.
Despite all problems and shortages, the best way to reform society is to vote, President Rouhani noted.
He further referred to the strategy of constructive interaction or constant confrontation as a basic issue for the country.
Elections determine Iran’s fate: Rouhani
TEHRAN, Oct. 16 (MNA) – Referring to the elections' role and importance in boosting the country's political power in the international arena, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that elections determine the fate of the country.
He made the remarks on Wednesday at the University of Tehran in a ceremony held to mark the beginning of the academic year.
“The best way is election poll; we should go to polls to defeat extremism, improve the society and enhance meritocracy,” Rouhani said.
“As a person who has spent most of his life in scientific and political fields, I’m telling that we have no other choice than holding a glorious election,” he said, adding that this sort of election will “enhance our political power in the world and cause enemies to fear us and understand that sanctions and pressure have had no effect.”
Elsewhere he called on the universities across the country to bring different skills into their curriculum focus. “Science is the basis for skill, advancement and development, and students have to learn skills and the future needs of society alongside science.”

Opening ceremony of New Academic Year was held
At the ceremony that was held at the University of Tehran’s Allameh Amini Hall, [on 16 October, 2019 ], Hassan Rouhani praised the top students of this year’s universities' entrance exam.
The Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mansour Gholami, Minister of Health and Medical Education Saeed Namaki and a group of university figures and students were also present at this ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rouhani stated that in the 41 years after the revolution, there were war, problems, and economic pressures, but the university has fulfilled its mission in different disciplines.
The head of the Supreme Council for Cultural Revolution went on to say, "We are not behind the world and advanced societies and have made good moves in practice and knowledge." Rouhani added, "Universities have a heavy responsibility and society and government are accountable vis-a-vis the university."
