University of Tehran Mourns Martyrdom of Dr. Ali Larijani
TEHRAN — Professor Mohammad Hossein Omid, President of the University of Tehran, issued a formal statement on Wednesday mourning the martyrdom of Dr. Ali Larijani, a prominent academic and high-ranking statesman. Dr. Larijani, who served as the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and was a longtime professor at the university, assassinated by Israel-US forces alongside his son.
In the official communiqué released on March 18, 2026 (27 Esfand 1404), President Omid described Larijani as a “devoted scholar” and an “eminent statesman” whose career was defined by sincere service to the state across the spheres of governance and scholarship.
“For more than thirty years, the University of Tehran was honored by his enlightened presence as a teacher, mentor, and thinker,” Omid stated, noting that generations of students and faculty had benefited from Larijani's intellect and “moral example.” The President highlighted Larijani’s ability to blend academic rigour with spiritual values within the classroom.
Omid concluded the tribute by expressing firm belief that Larijani’s decades of service would be “rewarded beyond measure” and warned that those responsible for the strike would face “a heavy price.”
The University of Tehran community has entered a period of mourning for the late professor, whose contributions to national security and political thought made him one of the most distinguished figures in the country’s modern history.
