Iran-Japan Art and the Space In-Between Exhibition

 

 

On 9 January, 2025, The opening ceremony of the international exhibition on “Art and the Space in Between; "Iran-Japan" was held in the Hall of Prof. Roholamini Garden Museum of University of Tehran .

The international exhibition of "Art and the space in between; Iran-Japan" was opened in a ceremony attended by Dr. Seyed Hossein Hosseini, Acting President, the University of Tehran, ambassadors of Japan and Croatia in Tehran, Dr. Ruhollah Nosrati, Vice President for Cultural and

Social Affairs, and Prof. Elham Aminzadeh, Vice President for International Affairs at the University of Tehran

Referring to the cultural relations between Iran and Japan despite the geographical distance, Prof. Hosseini said: "The artistic relationship between the two countries is as old as the Silk Road. The presence of ancient Iranian cultural relics in the Shusui treasure and other Japanese museums shows the importance of cultural relations between Iran and Japan.

The professor of the University of Tehran called academic cooperation as one of the manifestations of constructive relations between the two countries and added: "Japanese language and literature has been taught at the University of Tehran for many years. Our professors have also conducted numerous researches in the field of Japanese studies, especially Japanese art. There is potential for more cooperation in this field and also in the field of renewable energy.

Especially providing the possibility of student exchange between the University of Tehran and Japanese universities is a suitable solution for deepening the long-standing ties between the two countries, which should be planned for.

Also, Tamaki Tsukada, the Japanese ambassador in Tehran, mentioned the importance of Iran in the Silk Road and said: "Cultural relations between Iran and Japan have existed since the time of the Sassanids, and since that time, Iranian culture has been respected in Japan." There are many references to Iran in ancient Japanese art, and many works of art from Iran are kept in Japanese museums.

The ambassador of Japan in Iran pointed out the continuation of the good relations between the two countries in the contemporary era and added: "The current relationship between Iran and Japan is also stable because it is built based on mutual trust, a trust arising from the interest of two cultures in each other. "

In this ceremony, Prof. Aminzadeh presented a report on the current state of University of Tehran 's relations with Japanese universities, especially in the field of Japanese studies and seismology.

Dr.  Drago Stambuk, Ambassador of Croatia in Tehran, Dr. Elham Androudi, scientific and executive secretary of the exhibition and faculty member of the Faculty of Architecture of UT College of Fine Arts, Dr. Majid Montazerzohori, faculty member and head of the Department of Museums and Cultural Spaces of University of Tehran and faculty member at Faculty of Literature and Humanities,

Dr. Seyed Yahya Eslami, the head of the School of Architecture of UT College of Fine Arts, Prof. Riichi Miyake, the curator of the exhibition, and Prof. Akira Tatehata, Art critic and poet. President, Tama Art University, and the director of, Museum of Modern Art, Saitama, were among the other speakers of this event.

It should be mentioned that the exhibition of “Art and the Space in Between", focusing on the concept of Astangi (MA) in Japanese art, including works by famous Japanese architects such as Arata Isozaki, Shigeru Ban, and Ryue Nishizawa, will be open until February 6, 2025, this year at  University of Tehran's Nagarestan Museum Garden.
