The Iran Desert Research Center was founded in 1975.  The objectives of the Center are:

To develop comprehensive knowledge of the desert and arid zones of Iran from a natural, human, and social perspective.  Also, to     become aware of the problems related to this environment.

To increase the level of scientific research conducted on this topic, in the country.

To utilize research results in the development of desert and arid zones.  This would help increase living standards for the people who live in these areas.
 

This Center has five research departments.  Each department supervises several research  sections.  There are four research stations where  research is being conducted.  However, research on these topics is not limited to these areas. The Center offers  one graduate academic program.
